140 Seconds of Sorrow

It’s 10PM – tears stream down my face as I take these photos – it’s very cold & only a few people around. I set my camera shutter speed for 140 seconds, one second for every 1000th person killed. My sniffles obviously overheard & an elderly Japanese man in a business suit approaches to check I’m ok – we have a broken English Japanese conversation but words are not necessarily – we both stare & reflect silently – sadly – “not forget”. It’s freezing & I’m underdressed – it’s time to move on and in a moment I will never forget the man gives me a warm hug – just unsolicited & caring – of one human soul to another. The human condition never ceases to amaze – a photo cannot simply express. . .
